Napoli submit offer for Alex Grimaldo

Serie A leaders Napoli are actively searching for defensive reinforcements.

With Faouzi Ghoulam ruled out with a lengthy injury Partenopei are forced to make a move this January and improve their options at the back.

has been mentioned as one of the top January targets for the Italian hot-shots but the Portuguese media outlet Abola reports that Partenopei are also monitoring other options as well.

The 22-year-old Spanish defender Alex Grimaldo is said to be highly-rated by the Italian side who are already exploring an option to grab the former Barcelona graduate.

Grimaldo made only 6 Primeira Liga appearances for Benfica this season and could be allowed to leave Lisbon in search of regular playing time.

The Spanish defender is said to have a €40 million release clause in his contract but Napoli are hoping to cut the price in half and have already submitted an offer worth €20 million, according to
