Phoenix step up coach search

Wellington Phoenix general manager David Dome says the club hopes to have a new head coach in place within six weeks.

Applications for the job vacated by Ricki Herbert at the end of February close on Friday with Dome saying close to 200 people had applied for the position.

We are keen to complete the process in the next six weeks or so, so we can move on. But we are also very focused on finding the right person for the job and will take the time necessary to do this, said Dome.

While we are getting some well-known names come through, the most important thing for us is to get a head coach who understands and will execute the club s vision.

Former Real Madrid and Mexico striker Hugo Sanchez is the most high-profile person to be linked with the job.

West Brom bearing down on Premier League points record

West Brom boss Tony Pulis is enjoying a fantastic season and could etch his name in the club s history.

Tony Pulis’ men have already matched last season’s points tally (43) with nine games still to go and the Baggies look set to break their current record (49 points in 2012/13) as things stand, to cap a fantastic campaign.

Paris Saint-Germain 4 Guingamp 0: Cavani bags brace as champions back up to second

Goals from Angel Di Maria, Edinson Cavani and Blaise Matuidi ensured Paris Saint-Germain kept the pressure on Ligue 1 leaders Monaco with a 4-0 win over Guingamp at Parc des Princes.

After victories for Monaco and Nice on Saturday and Friday respectively, the champions were third in the table going into the game and they laboured for the best part of an hour against a Guingamp side coached by former PSG boss Antoine Kombouare.

The introduction of Javier Pastore as a second-half substitute seemed to turn the game and Di Maria opened the scoring three minutes after his Argentine compatriot came on.

Cavani provided the assist for the opener and spent the rest of the game tormenting the Guingamp defence, taking his tally for the league season to 29 with a well-take…

Juventus 0-0 Inter Milan (2-1 agg.): Three Things We Learned

Juventus reached their sixth Coppa Italia in the last seven seasons as a 0-0 draw against Inter Milan helped them to a 2-1 aggregate success on Tuesday evening.

The visitors possibly had the better of the game, which is understandable having sustained defeat last time out and needing two goals to book their progression. Juve remained dangerous but it was their defence that saw them secure a useful result and book their place in yet another final.

Here are three things we learned from the Juventus Stadium:

Juventus now the favourites?

It s fair to say that Juventus dominance of Italian football during the past decade has been built on their affection for the Coppa Italia. The Old Lady have won four out of the last six titles before this season, becoming the club…
